Our Philosophy
The Harvard Public Schools Performing Arts Department believes that a comprehensive performing arts education is vital to educating the whole student. Performing arts education allows students to explore creativity, artistic and other forms of expression, and past and present cultures in our diverse world. Our program opportunities help students in finding joy and excitement through the creation of high quality musical and theatrical creations.
All students should have a comprehensive, balanced, and sequential curriculum of in-school instruction in the performing arts, supplemented by extracurricular opportunities, in accordance with national, state, and local standards. We believe that an education in music and theater will develop students’ lifelong learning abilities, aesthetic skills, and 21st century skills needed to contribute to a more culturally diverse and educated society.
